Year 6 – Primary Care Placement

Teaching in Year 6 consists of a two-week independent placement in general practice, followed by a final seminar.

Placement in the Czech Republic
Students completing their placement in the Czech Republic are assigned to a GP supervisor by the Institute of General Practice. The supervisor and practice are allocated at the introductory seminar before the placement begins. Students therefore do not need to arrange their own supervisor.

During the placement, students work with real patients under the supervision of their GP supervisor and complete the activities and tasks specified in the Portfolio.

Placement abroad
Students may also complete their placement abroad, for example in their home country. In this case, students arrange a suitable general practice and supervisor themselves.
A placement completed abroad must meet the same requirements as a placement completed in the Czech Republic, including its duration, clinical content, completion of the Portfolio and assessment by the supervisor.
Students completing their placement abroad must provide the required information about their chosen practice and supervisor in advance.

Students completing their placement abroad will attend the final seminar online.

Portfolio
The Portfolio is the core document of your placement in general practice. It replaces the former separate case report, placement progress report and activity log – everything is now included in a single document.

We strongly recommend reading the Portfolio carefully before starting your placement. It is not only a document to be completed, but also a guide to the placement. It will help you focus on clinical situations you may encounter in general practice and highlight areas to which you should actively pay attention during your placement.
The Portfolio also includes a clinical case report, which is submitted as part of the document.
During the placement, you should also record the practical procedures required in your logbook (Minimum Practical Skills)
Please send the completed Portfolio electronically to vselek@lf1.cuni.cz no later than 5 calendar days before the date of your final seminar.
Part V of the Portfolio is intended for your supervisor and must be completed and signed by the supervisor.

Credit cannot be awarded without a completed and signed supervisor assessment.

Final seminars

The format of the final seminar depends on where the student completes the Primary Care placement.

Students completing their placement in the Czech Republic
Final seminars are held in person at the Institute of General Practice following the scheduled Primary Care 2 placement period. The dates and times of the seminars will be published here:

The seminars take place in the classroom of the Institute of General Practice (2nd floor, entrance from Studničkova Street into the courtyard, on the left).

Please submit your completed Portfolio electronically to vselek@lf1.cuni.cz by the specified deadline.

Students completing their placement abroad
Students may complete their Primary Care placement abroad at another time during the academic year. However, online final seminars are organised only during the period allocated to Primary Care 2 in the official Year 6 timetable.
Students completing their placement abroad must therefore attend one of the designated online final seminars scheduled during this period. Online final seminars are not available throughout the academic year.
